THE LOCATION

Tamarindo first gained popularity in the mid 90’s with the surf flick, The Endless Summer 2. Since then, there has been a steady growth of tourists and investors visiting (and falling in love) with the area. Tamarindo is located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica in the Northwest portion. It is the driest region of the country (300 days of sunshine yearly) and boasts the reputation of having the most beautiful beaches paired with incredible waves for surfers. You can walk from one end of Tamarindo to the other in about 20 minutes. It’s a dense little surf town right on the beach with over 50 restaurants, bars, clinics, fine dining, yoga, boutique shopping, and grocery stores. Even after your first visit, you’ll understand why this region of Costa Rica is called, The Gold Coast. Liberia International Airport is 1 hour away and international bi-lingual schools are readily available.

THE RESIDENCE

This Balinese Design Luxury Villa in the hills around Tamarindo, designed by renowned architect Abraham Valenzuela, displays extraordinary attention to detail in every corner. Amazing finishes, elegant décor, and a true labor of love.

The Balinese theme permeates throughout, with 13,000ft2 (1,200m2+) of construction, five water features, and pools. Fourty-foot (13m) ceilings are in keeping with the style and have been constructed painstakingly from hardwoods and even hand-carved. Marble and stone throughout, accentuating ceilings, creating intricate beautiful details. Throughout the estate the floors are of travertine marble, and all furnishings have been carefully selected to maximize elegance through simplicity.

This estate sanctuary is situated on a lush mountain top on a four acre plot (helipad plot available) with spectacular panoramic views of the ocean, valley, and mountains from every room in the house without a roof in sight between the estate and the ocean, where the sun quietly sets and falls behind the horizon, one of the most impressive features of this property.

A 60ft (20m) infinity swimming pool (salt water, stone tile) looks over the forest below, sprinkled with the sounds of the fountains and waterfall, creating tranquility and a perfect spot for relaxation. Zen has been built into every detail of the house and gardens.

The entrance to the estate is through a majestic, oriental, wooden electronic gate that bring you to the home through gardens with over four thousand planted plants, stone walkways, and Buddhas helping to blend nature and construction.

With all the attention given to design, functionality was not sacrificed in any way: The living room, dining room and kitchen have total integration with the terrace that runs along the swimming pool. The living room includes a complete home theater with surround sound that is ingeniously tucked away out of sight by a magnificent set of sliding custom made antique doors. Massive wooden pillars provide an open separation between living room and dining room.

The thorough attention to detail continues on into the kitchen appointed for the most discriminating of chefs with Viking appliances and a design that allows easy access to the main areas of entertaining.

The villa hosts five ensuite, very private bedrooms. The master bedroom suite, with its own large private patio, boasts two huge walk-in closets and a large soaking tub made of marble. One bedroom not only includes a king bed but also includes a loft that can sleep three. A separate one-bedroom apartment for guests or caretakers is an added feature, bringing the total bedrooms to six.
