THE LOCATION

Las Catalinas incorporates the principles of New Urbanism where human connection and environmentalism are priorities in the design. This concept is accomplished with public plazas, automobile-free streets, shopping boulevards, restaurants, work/study spaces, and marketplaces. Without cars filling the streets, Las Catalinas’ residents enjoy an old-time sense of community, a rarity today.

THE PROPERTY

For example, the backsplash and stairs consists of handmade Honduran tiles made by the Lenca peoples (some of the first people known to inhabit Honduras before colonial times), a large dining table for eight complimented by a lighting feature made from an original yolk  created by a Chorotegan  artisan, vaulted ceilings made of Costa Rican hardwood, and an oversized island with a 6-person breakfast bar adorned with clay lamps that give homage to Navajo Native American art. You will see similar tributes to peoples and cultures of Central America, including the Mayan culture, throughout this home.All five bedrooms have en-suite baths.

The principal bedroom is extremely private, located on its own floor, and has a large private balcony overlooking the town. Moreover, the composition of the bedrooms in this home makes it very versatile. First, three of the bedrooms have a King size bed and one of the rooms in the main house feature  full size bunk beds with trundles and pull out sofas, so that this home comfortably sleeps 16. Second, there are two bedrooms located downstairs , both are lock-off one-bedroom apartments. Both  apartments can be fully integrated with the main home, or can be locked off and used as a separate apartment, complete with its own kitchenettes and can be used either alone or together they connect in the middle with a second laundry room but have separate  private entrances, perfect for extended family or for use as a long or short-term rental.
